Wrestling legend discusses Baron Corbin's departure from WWE; claims it's "not a firing" (Exclusive)
Former WWE Superstar Baron Corbin recently announced that he will be departing from the Stamford-based company. His contract was not renewed after its expiration.
The 40-year-old star had a long run with the company, working on NXT and the main roster. The Lone Wolf won the Men's Money in the Bank, Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, King of the Ring, the United States Championship, and the NXT Tag Team Championship. He also retired Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35 back in 2019.
During an exclusive interview, Sportskeeda Wrestling's Senior Editor Bill Apter mentioned that WWE tried hard to find a good fit for Corbin. The legendary wrestling journalist pointed out that the company gave him several opportunities, including a run in NXT. However, the star just was not able to make it big for himself. Apter felt it was no surprise that the company was not keen on renewing The Lone Wolf's contract:
"Regarding Baron Corbin, it was just a matter of time. They never really found a niche for him that really worked. They tried so many different characterizations for him, they also tried him in NXT. Again, there was no real place that he became successful. So, it didn't surprise me that they were not renewing his contract. Again, that's not a firing. And that's my bottom line because Senior Editor Apter said so."
Corbin also took to X/Twitter to announce his departure from the Stamford-based company. The 40-year-old star thanked his supporters and fans for standing by him all these years.
With the wrestling business flourishing and several promotions doing well, it will be interesting to see whether Baron decides to appear in some other promotion.
