Wrestling legend discusses Shane McMahon's in-ring return, but not for WWE

Shane McMahon is part of WWE's rich wrestling history of the last three decades. He has competed in some of the most memorable brawls and has created his fair share of iconic moments in World Wrestling Entertainment.

His last name makes him by default a WWE guy forever in the eyes of fans. This makes a potential run in AEW that much more intriguing. Wrestling legend Jim Ross, who is currently signed to Tony Khan's promotion, touched upon the matter recently on his podcast.

Speaking on the Grillin' JR podcast, Jim Ross pointed to how nobody could fathom such a move, which makes it a crazy idea. On account of that very same reason, the veteran commentator believes such a move could work, however a lot would depend on McMahon himself.

"Yeah, it would. It’s so crazy that it might work, depending on how it was positioned and how it was introduced. Shane called me the other day, he’s called me two or three times, which I really appreciate. He’s always been sensitive in that respect. That’s only a question that Shane could answer. Shane and Tony Khan being together, how would that work creatively, heck, who knows? Might be great. But in any event, that all depends on Shane and what he wants to do," said Ross.

At WrestleMania 39, Shane O Mac made an unexpected return to the company, a year after allegedly getting fired by his father, Vince McMahon, following a Royal Rumble incident.

Unfortunately, he tore his quad immediately after the bell rang for his impromptu match against The Miz. This led to the show's co-host, Snoop Dogg, improvising the situation and stepping in for the younger McMahon. It marked the latter's final appearance in WWE.

Shane McMahon may have had a fallout with the co-founder of WWE

Vince and Shane McMahon have not always seen eye to eye on-screen. The father-son duo have even wrestled each other, most notably at WrestleMania X-Seven in 2001. The event and the match were hailed as one of the greatest of all time.

Shane had left WWE in 2009 and would not return to the company until 2016. On the night he made his first appearance in close to seven years, he shared the ring with his father and sister, Stephanie McMahon.

After Janel Grant's lawsuit became public knowledge, wrestling journalist Bill Apter commented on Vince McMahon's relationship with his son.

It is said that the former WWE Chairman's wife Linda McMahon had threatened to divorce him a month before he allegedly forced Grant to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) on January 28, 2022.

Apter spoke on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine show in February, recounting a story he heard from one of his sources. He felt Shane McMahon may have known something was going on between Vince and Janel Grant and discouraged his father from pursuing it any further.

He added that this piece of information should be taken with a grain of salt as it came second-hand to him. Nevertheless, Apter feels this may be a reason Shane disassociated himself with Vince McMahon.
