Wrestling legend on the possibility of Cody Rhodes turning heel in WWE

Cody Rhodes has been one of WWE's top babyfaces since returning to the company in April 2022. Wrestling legend Konnan recently gave his take on the idea of The American Nightmare turning heel in the near future.

The WWE roster contains several high-profile fan favorites right now, including Jey Uso, Kevin Owens, LA Knight, Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, and Rhodes. The latter has not performed as a bad guy in WWE since portraying the Stardust character in 2016.

On K100, Konnan addressed a listener's question about whether Rhodes could become a villain. He also referenced how WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon told Rhodes' father Dusty to wear polka-dot ring attire in 1989:

"Now he's come back after being in the competition [AEW], and I thought WWE was very smart not to give him the title too quick because the journey is half the fun," Konnan said. "So you're going on this journey with him to do something his dad never did, who by the way they also made fun of his dad with the polka dots. So people that know the backstory, there's something there. There is no reason to turn him heel right now. He's super hot." [4:55 – 5:19]

As Konnan mentioned, Cody Rhodes has made it his mission to become the first member of his family to win a WWE world title. In April, he unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39.

Konnan's former WCW co-worker Disco Inferno said he does not have a prediction on what might happen next in Rhodes' on-screen storyline. Instead, he would rather watch the developments play out on television.

"I don't like looking forward, ahead, what's gonna happen if they give the title to Cody? What are you gonna do after that?" Disco Inferno stated. "I just like to follow these storylines as they commence every week. Like right now the WWE, their first two shows of the year, RAW and SmackDown, are doing good soap opera storytelling." Rhodes and Jey Uso lost the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against Damian Priest and Finn Balor on the October 16 episode of RAW. Moving forward, the former AEW star will face Priest in a singles match at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 4.
