Wrestling veteran calls out WWE's poor treatment of heels, brings up Gunther as an example (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about how the company was booking heels like World Heavyweight Champion Gunther and The Judgment Day. He felt the heels were not getting any heat.
During the latest edition of WWE RAW, Sami Zayn squared off against Ludwig Kaiser with the former hoping to get a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship. Zayn picked up the win courtesy of a vicious Helluva Kick on Kaiser. However, Gunther was not impressed and refused to give him a title shot.
This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo, who is a veteran in the industry, opined that none of the heels had any heat because of bad booking. He questioned The Ring General's booking, claiming his villainy was that he wasn't ready to give Sami a title opportunity. The former writer even pointed out that a dominant faction like The Judgment Day also lost their match signaling the lack of credible antagonists in the company.
"No heels have heat. Gunther's heat is that he won't give Sami Zayn a match. That's his heat bro. No heels in this company have any heat whatsoever. None, not a single one of them bro. They beat Judgment Day, they beat Judgment Day who's supposed to run this place." [From 8:18 onwards]
Gunther and Drew McIntyre are possibly the biggest heels on the red brand at the moment. The Judgment Day is not far behind but the faction arguably needs to work on their win-loss record.
It will be interesting to see how the heels fare in the coming weeks as WWE closes in on Bad Blood.
