Wrestling veteran shocked to see Gunther "backing down" from a fight during segment with Bret Hart (Exclusive)

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Gunther's segment on Monday Night RAW. The World Heavyweight Champion walked down to the ring to confront Bret "The Hitman" Hart and came eye-to-eye with Sami Zayn.

During his appearance on RAW this week, Gunther came to the ring and started insulting the legendary Bret Hart in front of his hometown fans. This prompted Sami Zayn to come out and defend the Hall of Famer. Zayn got into the World Heavyweight Champion's face and once again challenged him to a match for the title. The Ring General refused and backed out of the ring. This led to The Hitman calling him a coward.

This week on Legion of RAW, Russo questioned how WWE felt the segment would go over. He was confused as to why Bret wasn't the one trying to get Sami over with the Calgary audience. He also rubbished the booking since it portrayed the Ring General as a weak champion, backing down from a challenge to fight Zayn.

"I'm watching Sami Zayn standing next to Bret Hart and now Bert Hart is getting the Sami Zayn rub?" He continued, "Then again, he's in freaking Gunther's face and Gunther is backing down from this guy?" [From 45:17 onwards]

The Ring General lost to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL bringing an end to his 666-day historic run with the Intercontinental Championship.

After this week's exchange, it will be interesting to see if The Ring General takes Sami up on the match for the World title.
