Wrestling veteran slams WWE for Drew McIntyre’s booking; claims it makes no sense and hurts his credibility
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Drew McIntyre's match against Sami Zayn. He was unhappy with how the match was booked.
The two stars went at it this week on Saturday Night's Main Event. Sami gave it his all and for a moment, it looked like he could get the better of The Scottish Warrior. However, Drew came back strongly and landed a surprise Claymore on his opponent for the win.
While reviewing Saturday Night's Main Event on Russo's The Brand, the veteran criticized WWE’s booking of Drew McIntyre vs. Sami Zayn. He pointed out that McIntyre was much bigger and stronger and should have annihilated Zayn during the encounter. Russo thought fans would question why The Scottish Warrior wasn’t dominating and it hurt the star's image.
"I'm sorry man. A guy that looks like Drew McIntyre cannot give Sami Zayn fifty percent of the match. It is not believeable. If these two got in a bar fight, Drew McIntyre would absolutely clean the bar with Sami Zayn. And why they have a guy like McIntyre going 50-50 with Sami Zayn? I have absolutely no idea. And let me tell you something. Casual fans watching this show are saying the same exact thing. 'Who is this guy and why is the bigger guy not annihilating him?' You don't do Drew McIyntre any favors booking him 50-50 against Sami Zayn. I'm sorry." [From 13:20 - 14:15]
Drew McIntyre appeared for an interview after the show
WWE presenters Jackie Redmond and Peter Rosenberg interviewed McIntyre after the show.
The Scottish Warrior claimed he wouldn't give them any scoop because they were not live. However, Drew mentioned that he did what he had promised and it was to beat Sami Zayn fair and square in the ring.
McIntyre then walked off from the interview, leaving Jackie and Peter clueless.
