Wrestling veteran slams WWE's treatment of former champ; claims he was doing better under Vince McMahon (Exclusive)
Hall of Fame wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently spoke about how some WWE stars were utilized under the Vince McMahon regime. One such star who has lost his shine is Austin Theory.
Grayson Waller and Theory found themselves in a Triple Threat match against Kevin Owens this week on SmackDown. The matchup exposed the cracks between the two teammates as they argued over who should pin KO. Owens exploited their differences to score the pin after a devastating Stunner on Theory.
This week on Smack Talk, Apter stated that WWE is not utilizing Theory like he was when Vince McMahon was around. He felt the former United States Champion needed to break away from Waller and focus on his singles career. Bill hoped to see a match between Waller and Theory to culminate their storyline.
"Well, first of all, the Austin Theory that we're seeing is not on the level that Austin Theory was at when this guy [Vince McMahon] was still in charge. I want to see Theory back in the lineup of championship matches. I want to see him back as a singles wrestler. I think he and Grayson Waller were good as a tag team, but that split has gotta happen. They gotta put them in a match against each other one on one. That's gotta happen." [From 17:35 - 18:22]
After the matchup, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller launched a 2-on-1 beatdown on Kevin Owens and left him lying in the ring.
The stars will face off again next week on WWE SmackDown in a tag team match where A-Town Down Under will take on Owens and a partner of his choice.
