WWE allegedly almost refused to use now-iconic part of Cody Rhodes' character
According to Downstait's lead singer Zack Call, WWE almost made the decision for Cody Rhodes to use a different theme song for his WrestleMania 38 entrance. If this had happened, the company would have missed out on the now-iconic pop of receiving "Wooaahh" from the live audience during his entrance.
When Cody Rhodes left WWE in 2016 to become The American Nightmare, he revamped his presentation with the procurement of new entrance music. Rhodes elected to enter with the "Kingdom" song by Downstait for his performances with promotions such as Impact Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
The 37-year-old star eventually returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, accompanied by his popular theme song. But Rhodes was nearly forced to leave it behind, according to Downstait's lead vocalist.
Zack Call disclosed on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that there was a legal struggle before Cody's WWE return. After several repeated phone calls with WWE and its legal professionals, the talks seemed to be a stalemate, so WWE suggested that Rhodes use a different theme song for his return.
Downstait's frontman then claimed that Rhodes persuaded WWE to allow him to utilize the "Kingdom" song for his comeback by giving them an ultimatum.
"We held our silence for a little bit, and I said my piece and my heart is in my throat and I'm not ready to give up the song. Cody just basically breaks the silence and he goes, 'Well, you don't get me without 'Kingdom' on this conference call. I was like, 'All right!'" Zack Call said. [H/T - Wrestling Inc.]
