WWE files trademark for 2-time champions; receives new name after five years
The Bad Blood PLE in Atlanta was a huge success, and WWE is now heading to Saudi Arabia for Crown Jewel. Meanwhile, the company has filed a trademark for 'The War Raiders' as Erik and Ivar received a name change for the first time in five years.
In 2019, The War Raiders received their main roster call-up and joined Monday Night RAW under Vince McMahon's regime. However, they were immediately given a new name, and the management switched back and forth between a few names in the coming weeks.
In the end, 'The Viking Raiders' was picked, and the team had the name for five years on WWE's main roster. Luckily for Erik and Ivar, Triple H's regime decided to bring back 'The War Raiders', and the two recently returned on Monday Night RAW with the old name and defeated Alpha Academy.
Moreover, WWE filed a trademark for The War Raiders and it looks like this will be Erik and Ivar's official team name in the company for the foreseeable future.
The War Raiders are eyeing gold on WWE RAW
A few years ago, Erik and Ivar moved to the main roster and eventually captured the RAW Tag Team Championship from Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler. The duo won the titles under their new name in the Stamford-based promotion.
After holding the RAW Tag Team Championship, the team didn't hold any tag team gold in the coming years.
Moreover, the two were often held back by injuries and Ivar spent time on the brand as a singles competitor for a while. Earlier this week, The War Raiders returned with a new gimmick, moving away from their Viking characters.
The duo has entered a tournament to determine the new number-one contenders for the World Tag Team Championship. It'll be interesting to see which team will win and face The Judgment Day's Finn Balor and JD McDonagh for the titles.
