WWE Hall of Famer recalls Afa Anoa'i's impact on her career in touching tribute
Last night, the pro wrestling world was saddened to learn of the passing of Afa Anoa'i. One half of the legendary Wild Samoans, Anoa'i was an inspiration like no other, much like his late brother, Sika. Several superstars took to social media to acknowledge his contributions to the industry. This includes a fellow Hall of Famer, who recalled the impact he had on her career in a touching tribute.
The Hall of Famer in question here is Beth Phoenix. A veteran of 23 years, she is an all-time great and a fan favorite of the WWE Universe. But, all she has achieved in the squared circle may not have come to pass if it weren't for the influence of Afa Anoa'i. Well, she wrote about all this in a touching tribute via Instagram.
In the post, Phoenix shared how heartbroken she was to learn of Afa Anoa'i's passing. She recalled just how much the legend helped her in her career, whether it was offering her a place to stay or having her perform in his promotion, WXW. But, most of all, she was grateful for the opportunity to learn from the person many so fondly referred to as "Pops."
It truly is heartwarming to read and hear just how incredible Afa was. The mark he has left on the pro wrestling industry will surely never fade away. A legend through and through, and he will always be remembered as such.
WWE acknowledged Afa Anoa'i's wrestling legacy on SmackDown
Afa Anoa'i's talent as a performer cannot be overlooked. He was not only a member of the Wild Samoans but also a respected figure within the Anoa'i family. Following his retirement, Afa served as a mentor to aspiring wrestlers like his son Samu and his nephew Rikishi, as well as the acclaimed Roman Reigns. These individuals sought his guidance and wisdom in their own careers.
This very role as a member of the legendary Anoa'i family was acknowledged by WWE on SmackDown. As mentioned earlier, his contributions will never be forgotten. And, much of what he did for the industry was encapsulated in a short but fitting video tribute that was aired last night.
As both a legendary pro wrestler and an incredible human being, Afa will be missed. But, it is somewhat satisfying to know that he lives on, not just through his family, but in every single person who had the pleasure of working with him.
