WWE should have handled Odyssey Jones allegations differently, veteran says (Exclusive)

Odyssey Jones reportedly received his release from WWE recently after being accused of domestic violence. Vince Russo, WWE's former head writer, believes the company's handling of the situation could have been better.

Jones made his RAW debut on August 5 after five years in WWE. The former football player formed an alliance with The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods and looked set to feature prominently on television.

On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo told host Dr. Chris Featherstone that WWE should have suspended the 30-year-old while investigating the claims:

"The dude's a public figure, so now it's gonna be out there publicly and you're gonna get the exact feedback that you're saying [negative reactions] rather than [a WWE statement saying], 'There have been allegations against Odyssey Jones.' I don't know if you wanna use the word suspend him, but literally put him on the shelf until we can investigate these allegations." [9:48 – 10:15]

Due to the seriousness of the allegations, Vince Russo does not think other wrestling promotions will be interested in hiring Odyssey Jones any time soon.

The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion added that Jones' career will likely be impacted even if he is innocent:

"I'm just talking about him as a human being," Russo continued. "Bro, guilty or not guilty, it's gonna affect him one way or another going forward. It's definitely gonna affect him." [10:41 – 11:05]

Jones' last televised WWE match took place on August 19. He teamed up with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to defeat The Final Testament's Akam, Karrion Kross, and Rezar on RAW.
