WWE is hesitant about putting major title on Chelsea Green, according to wrestling veteran (Exclusive)
Legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter recently spoke about Chelsea Green's main event run. The star is currently drafted to SmackDown in a tag team with Piper Niven.
During this week's SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis revealed the new Women's United States Championship. He mentioned the title would lead to more opportunities for the women on the roster. This lit up speculations about who would be the inaugural champion.
This week on Smack Talk, Apter mentioned that Chelsea Green was an entertaining character and possibly had a decent chance of becoming the new US champion. The senior journalist felt other stars such as Jade Cargill or Bianca Belair were better options. He detailed that Green still wasn't that big a star, which would influence WWE to put the title on her.
"She'd (Chelsea Green) probably be in my first five choices. I'm still gonna stick with Jade. It still could be Bianca." He continued, "I think Chelsea is great. She's terrific and all that. But I don't think she's at the level where they're gonna put a belt on her." [From 10:35 onwards]
During the show, WWE didn't specify how or when they would go about crowning the new Women's United States Champion.
It will be interesting to see further news on the storyline in the coming weeks and which superstars put in their names as contenders for the Women's United States Championship.
