WWE issues statement as major title changes hands after 133 days

WWE has issued a statement regarding a major title change. The NXT Heritage Cup changed hands after 133 days, going to Lexis King after he controversially defeated Charlie Dempsey.

Lexis King got his rematch against Charlie Dempsey on this week's episode of NXT, and for the most part, it was a stalemate. The match went for a total of four rounds, with both superstars getting some good shots in.

However, the person who turned the tide was none other than William Regal. The WWE legend once again tried to get Lexis King to use the brass knuckles but to no avail. So, instead, he punched King in the face, which led to the brass knuckles getting flung into the ring.

Unfortunately, Dempsey picked it up while King was still down, giving the referee the wrong impression. The referee then ruled in King's favor, giving him the victory and the NXT Heritage Cup via disqualification. This obviously left many confused, including WWE, who shared a statement on Instagram, wondering what happened.

"What just happened?!"

The whole situation is exasperating, with even the rules being called into question. It will be interesting to see how the creative team, led by Triple H, and the stars themselves, Lexis King and Charlie Dempsey, respond in the coming days.
