WWE kept an opening for Sami Zayn to challenge Gunther again, claims former employee (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo recently spoke about Gunther and Sami Zayn facing each other. The two men squared off in a hard-hitting World Heavyweight Championship match on RAW this week.
Despite taking some brutal Powerbombs, clotheslines, and submission attempts, Zayn refused to give up. However, The Ring General was too dominant and finally locked in a sleeper hold, forcing the referee to call for the bell.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, Russo detailed that WWE has the scope of a rematch between the two men after this week's encounter. He felt that Sami could claim that the champion did not pin him and ask for another match. The 63-year-old veteran claimed the creative team could further prolong this feud.
"Here's the punchline. Now, we're gonna go into, 'You never pinned me.' That's the punchline, bro. They'll keep this thing going forever. That's where we're gonna go now. You didn't pin me. We're gonna get three months of that now, bro," Vince Russo said. [4:59 - 5:20]
