WWE doesn't know what to do with Drew McIntyre and CM Punk's feud, says veteran, recalls Undertaker vs. Austin (Exclusive)
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will seemingly end their feud at Bad Blood. However, the build-up to their Hell in a Cell clash has left much to be desired, according to Vince Russo.
In response to CM Punk, the Scottish Warrior cut a promo on this week's RAW and promised to end the Second City Saint's career when they enter the cell.
McIntyre and Punk's feud has been running for a while, and Vince Russo, for one, believed WWE was out of ideas regarding one of their biggest stories.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW, Russo revealed he recently rewatched some Attitude Era footage and was blown away by Undertaker and Steve Austin's program, which involved the use of chloroform, amongst other outrageous moments.
Vince recalled:
"The week before 'Taker hits Austin in the head and lays him out with a shovel. On Sunday Night Heat, Austin is having a match, bro; he collapses because of the head trauma. On Monday, the next day, he is in the hospital for tests, okay? They test him; he's got to stay overnight. It's nighttime; a hearse pulls up in front of the hospital. Paul Bearer, 'Taker, they go in there, 'Taker beats the crap out of him, they chloroform Austin, throw him in the back of the hearse."
Russo pointed out that the narrative around Drew McIntyre and CM Punk had slowed down considerably, with WWE not doing anything unique to make the rivalry more interesting.
Compared to what Vince Russo and team had done within days for The Undertaker and Steve Austin, he was underwhelmed by WWE's work with Punk and Drew McIntyre.
Russo added:
"This is all in the same show! These guys don't know what to do with Drew and Punk over a four-week span. We did all that stuff in three freaking days."
WWE is unlikely to extend Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk beyond Bad Blood, which makes their upcoming match potentially the most important one in their series thus far.
