WWE legend on Cody Rhodes possibly turning heel soon (Exclusive)
Cody Rhodes has been presented as one of WWE's top babyfaces since returning to the company in 2022. In an exclusive interview, former WCW executive Eric Bischoff gave his thoughts on how The American Nightmare's character could progress.
Rhodes captured the Undisputed WWE Championship from Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL on April 7. Since then, the fan favorite has continued to receive positive reactions from crowds. However, many have predicted he could undergo a drastic transformation by becoming a bad guy one day.
Bischoff was in charge of WCW when the promotion's marquee attraction Hulk Hogan turned heel in 1996. Speaking to Sportskeeda Wrestling Senior Editor Bill Apter, the WWE Hall of Famer addressed Rhodes' babyface status:
"I think he's doing great," Bischoff said. "I worry about a babyface champion for an extended period of time, and he's doing a fantastic job with it. I don't see any reason for any concern, but as a producer I'm always thinking, 'Okay, what's next?' And where could, 'What's next?' take me after that. That's sometimes just stupid to think that way. To a degree you have to." [From 10:24 – 10:50]
Bischoff reiterated he has no issue with Cody Rhodes' current presentation, but he still thinks the SmackDown star's on-screen persona might change at some point:
"I'm watching, success, he's doing so well, but at some point something has to happen, and whether it's a different kind of babyface character or more of an anti-hero or just flat-out real heel, I don't know, but that's why I watch wrestling, to think about where things could go." On August 3, Cody Rhodes will defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against The Bloodline's new leader Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam. The event will feature several other much-anticipated matches, including CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre and Liv Morgan vs. Rhea Ripley.
Asked about McIntyre's recent promo work, Eric Bischoff mentioned how WWE and the entire wrestling industry is thriving right now:
"It's a great time, it's a great time. I think wrestling, in my opinion, the overall quality of wrestling right now is at a place that I never thought it would be." [From 11:41 – 11:52]
