WWE legend comments on Cody Rhodes on possibly having massive match with 36-year-old star (Exclusive)

WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long recently discussed the possibility of a feud between long-time rivals Cody Rhodes and new SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis.

Those unaware of Aldis' work outside of WWE, he's a former IMPACT Wrestling World Champion and NWA World Heavyweight Champion. He once feuded with Cody Rhodes for the NWA Title on the indies, with their first match going down at All In 2018, where The American Nightmare won the title from him.

Though Cody lost the gold mere months later, it set the stage for a third match with Aldis, which unfortunately never materialized as the two went their separate ways. However, now that Nick Aldis and Cody Rhodes are in WWE, there's a chance a third clash between them could become a reality.

On Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine podcast hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy Long explained that the company could slowly build a feud between them. Long felt the promotion should take time to familiarize fans with their history.

"Here's a guy [Nick Aldis] that's in charge. Is his rival Cody Rhodes or whoever it is? Maybe he has to make a decision on them. Then they go back to him and go like, 'Hey, Nick, you remember when? You remember when we rode.' Just go back to that. Now, they are expecting him to do a favor due to the old time's sake. 'When we rode together, broke bread together.' But Nick doesn't do that. This is a different time and era. They you get in your story when he's trying to screw somebody. Then maybe they attack him in his office, or when he's ready to get in his car, they ambush him. You gotta get in there." [4:45 - 5:25]

WWE star Nick Aldis on feud with Cody Rhodes

In an interview earlier this year, Nick Aldis revealed how he and Cody Rhodes greatly benefited from their feud in 2018. Aldis mentioned that while Rhodes fulfilled his destiny and became the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, he came to be recognized by fans as a worthy adversary and dangerous antagonist.

"It didn't just benefit him by getting to have the big win on this big show and winning the title that his father had held. It also did a lot for me because then, by the time we got there, people were like, 'Man, this guy is the real deal. This guy is different. This guy is special, and he does feel like a credible antagonist and a credible adversary for this guy who we really want to see win. But we don't know for sure.' That is The Sweet Spot of booking. We really want this guy to win, but we don't know for sure that it's going to happen. That's a testament to the other guy."

Considering how well-received their previous bouts were, it's safe to say Cody and Aldis could have another match for the ages if they happen to compete in WWE.
