WWE legend disagrees with Kevin Owens' take on Vince McMahon's exit
Kevin Owens recently discussed WWE's increasing popularity since Triple H replaced Vince McMahon as the company's creative figurehead. Two-time Hall of Famer Kevin Nash heard Owens' comments and disagreed with the SmackDown star's opinion on WWE's success.
In January, McMahon resigned as a board member of WWE's parent company TKO after being accused of sexual misconduct. Owens said in an interview with Collider that the change in direction "made a lot of noise" and probably contributed to the company's growth.
On his Kliq This podcast, Nash made it clear he does not share the same view as Owens. He also referenced an allegation that former WWE employee Janel Grant made about McMahon:
"I think that's a very 'I've lived in the wrestling bubble' view of the world," Nash said. "I'm sorry, man. I did it for 30 years. It's very difficult for me to watch professional wrestling. So, somebody sh***ing on somebody, if that's the news headline and that makes me watch, it's not gonna draw me to becoming something to watch on a weekly basis." [53:37 – 54:21]
Nash added that WWE's sale to Endeavor is likely the main reason why the company has flourished over the last year:
"I just think that it was time for somebody besides Vince to be in charge of the company. I also think it was a lot to do with Endeavor. They wanted to put different eyes on it." [54:35 – 55:00]
Nash, fka Diesel in WWE, held the WWE Championship for 358 days between 1994 and 1995. He also won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship five times.
Kevin Nash explains why Kevin Owens is wrong
Elaborating on Kevin Owens' comment, Kevin Nash said he would not start watching NASCAR if someone from the organization's ownership team was involved in controversy.
Using the same logic, he does not think WWE gained new fans after the Vince McMahon allegations emerged:
"To me, it's like stock car racing," Nash continued. "If all of a sudden f***ing somebody in the France family gets charged of some kind of sex [misconduct], it ain't gonna make me watch f***ing stock car racing. I'm not gonna watch NASCAR." [55:29 – 55:49]
On December 14, Owens unsuccessfully challenged Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event.
