WWE legend who last wrestled in AEW confirmed to return after 3725 days

A WWE legend is set to make his return after several years. He has also previously wrestled in AEW in the interim.

Rob Van Dam first made a name for himself in ECW where he gained traction due to his high-flying moves. RVD then made his way over to WWE where he continued to impress fans with his performances, making him one of the most popular stars on the roster.

After his release from WWE, RVD went on to TNA and even competed in AEW recently. His last match for Tony Khan's promotion was on the April 20, 2024, episode of Rampage against Isiah Kassidy, Komander, and Lee Johnson.

Given that next week's episode of NXT will take place in the iconic ECW arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bubba Ray Dudley made an appearance on the show tonight. Trick suggested that they team up against Ridge Holland and Ethan Page but Bubba turned him down.

Following this segment, RVD was seen backstage with NXT GM Ava where he stated that he has a lot of history with Bubba. However, unlike Bubba, he said that he wants to be a part of the show next week. Ava said she could figure something out for him. If he indeed makes his in-ring return on next week's show, it will be his first match in WWE since his last match on August 26, 2014, against Seth Rollins on SmackDown.

During the closing moments of the show, RVD interrupted a backstage brawl between Je'Von Evans and Wes Lee and informed them that he knew what he wanted to do next week.

It will be interesting to see how Rob Van Dam will be involved in next week's episode of NXT from the 2300 Arena.
