WWE legend picks a winner between Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre (Exclusive)
Damian Priest will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle on June 15. WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long is a big fan of both superstars, but he thinks Priest will leave the event with the gold.
Clash at the Castle will be held in McIntyre's home country of Scotland. The 2020 Royal Rumble winner briefly held the World Heavyweight Championship after defeating Seth Rollins at WrestleMania XL. However, due to a distraction from CM Punk, he quickly lost the title after Priest successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract.
Speaking on the latest episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Time Machine with journalist Bill Apter and host Mac Davis. Long highlighted how well McIntyre has performed as a bad guy in recent months:
"Well, anything's possible, you know, but I'm gonna say this. Drew McIntyre, I agree with Bill, he's certainly doing a tremendous job. Boy, is he absolutely fantastic for his work in the ring, and plus his promos are good with the thing that he's been doing with CM Punk," Long said. [From 05:39 – 05:57]
The former SmackDown General Manager also showered praise on Priest's work as World Heavyweight Champion so far. He compared The Judgment Day member to WWE Hall of Famer Eddie Guerrero and predicted he would retain against McIntyre:
"And I have to glorify Damian Priest. God, is he the greatest? I mean, I've watched him, he reminds me so much of Eddie Guerrero. Damian is really moving along. I watched him last night, his promo on RAW, and the timing, everything was just perfect. So, brother, I love Damian Priest and I think he's gonna hold on to the title," Long continued. Mac Davis on CM Punk's involvement in Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre
On January 27, CM Punk tore his triceps on his in-ring return in the 2024 Men's Royal Rumble match. Since then, he and Drew McIntyre have traded several insults online and during promos.
Mac Davis thinks Punk could get involved at Clash at the Castle to prevent his long-term rival from dethroning Damian Priest:
"I think Damian Priest will hold on to the title, and I still wonder, we keep seeing these little heat-ups with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. I'm wondering if somehow maybe CM Punk finds a way to cause Drew McIntyre to lose this match, even if he's just appearing at the top of the ramp at one point to take his attention away." McIntyre also challenged for a world title at the inaugural Clash at the Castle event in Wales in 2022. On that occasion, Solo Sikoa interfered to help Roman Reigns retain the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against The Scottish Warrior.
