WWE no longer wants three top AEW stars, Eric Bischoff believes
Eric Bischoff made his name in the wrestling business as a WCW executive in the 1990s and as a WWE on-screen character in the 2000s. He recently explained why WWE likely has no interest in hiring AEW stars Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks.
In 2019, the trio joined AEW as Executive Vice Presidents alongside Cody Rhodes. Before signing with Tony Khan's promotion, they held talks with WWE about potentially joining the company.
Bischoff said on his 83 Weeks podcast that Omega and The Young Bucks' "perceived value was much greater before going to AEW." He also speculated that WWE would not want the experienced wrestlers if they became free agents:
"The entire brand of AEW takes the talent down with it, in terms of perception, so I hope they're making a lot of money," Bischoff stated. "Do I think we'll see them in WWE? I really don't because of what I just said. I think the perception of them has been taken down enough that it's just probably not as attractive to WWE as it would have been three or four years ago." Eric Bischoff also claimed a former WWE star's brand has been "severely damaged" since debuting in AEW in March.
Eric Bischoff questions Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks' career progression
In the same episode, Eric Bischoff acknowledged that AEW might not exist had Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks not joined the company in 2019.
Bischoff also raised concerns about the trio's lack of meaningful moments in the wrestling industry in recent years:
"Kenny got a big check, Bucks got big checks. Career-wise, aside from the financial part, can we honestly say that their career has moved forward in a positive way? I guess that depends on your perspective, and certainly their perspective is the only one that matters. They're making a lot of money, but are they happy with where they're at in their careers at this point in those careers? I can't imagine they would be unless they only care about the money." The Young Bucks are three-time AEW Tag Team Champions, while Omega is a former AEW World Champion and Tag Team Champion with Adam Page. Omega and The Young Bucks also held the AEW World Trios Championship twice.
