WWE makes clarification on major CM Punk announcement to avoid backlash

WWE recently made a huge confirmation regarding a major CM Punk announcement ahead of the upcoming episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Although The Best in The World has not wrestled much since his return to the Stamford-based promotion at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames Premium Live Event, he has given the audience one of the greatest feuds with Drew McIntyre.

The duo has cut some incredible promos, and their current storyline is receiving widespread praise from fans and critics. WWE recently announced that CM Punk would make an appearance on this week's SmackDown. However, they have now confirmed that The Second City Saint will actually show up on television to avoid major backlash from fans.

The Stamford-based promotion made this clarification to avoid the backlash that the company received after CM Punk's recent appearance on SmackDown. The Straight Edge Superstar was announced for the April 26, 2024, episode of the blue brand. While he did appear on the show and cut a promo, the events took place after the show went off the air. Hence, the television audience was left frustrated with the company for not featuring Punk's promo on TV.

Bill Apter believes CM Punk can never turn heel in WWE again

During a recent edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSKripted, Bill Apter said that he does not think CM Punk could ever turn heel in WWE again, given how fans chanted his name even after he cost Drew McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship in the latter's hometown of Scotland at the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event.

"When [CM] Punk left the ring as the 'referee,' did you notice fans embracing him and yelling out CM Punk? No matter what he does, I don't think fans are ever gonna turn against him again. I mean, we are in Drew's hometown!" he said.

Following another setback in his bid to regain the World Title, Drew McIntyre shocked everyone this past Monday as he announced his decision to ''quit'' the company. It will be interesting to see if The Scottish Warrior shows up on this week's SmackDown during CM Punk's appearance.
