WWE makes major CM Punk announcement; 4,174-day streak finally ending

CM Punk has had one major goal in WWE ever since he came back to the company in November 2023. He wants to main event WrestleMania.

To do that, The Second City Saint would likely have to earn his way into a world championship match at The Show of Shows. The only problem is that Punk hasn't challenged for any title in WWE in over 11 years. Well, that is about to change, as soon as this weekend.

The company is advertising a huge main event for the Live Event in Chicago on Sunday, December 29th. CM Punk will challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in a Steel Cage Match. This has left WWE fans, particularly those in Chicago, excited.

This will be Punk's first title match in WWE since mid-2013. According to Cagematch.net, the last one came on July 26th, when he challenged Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at a Live Event in Atlanta.

While this is a big match, the chances of CM Punk winning the World Heavyweight Title are extremely slim. WWE likely wouldn't book such a huge moment on a non-televised show. However, this could mean The Best in the World will feud with Gunther on Monday Night RAW, following his match against Seth Rollins.
