WWE makes massive announcement at NXT Heatwave
The WWE NXT Heatwave Premium Live Event is taking place live from Toronto tonight, with 5 big title matches on the card. Officials also made a major announcement on summer plans, while also confirming the newest tradition.
The Great American Bash was introduced in 1985 by Jim Crockett Promotions. WCW continued using the name until the final show in 2000, which was co-branded with the nWo. WWE brought the name back in 2004 for 6 pay-per-view events from 2004-2009 and 1 SmackDown special in 2012. The GAB returned in 2020 as a two-night NXT TV event, then again in 2022. NXT then used the same name for a PLE in 2023.
WWE has announced that The Great American Bash is returning to NXT this year. The TV special will air live on Tuesday, August 6 from the Performance Center in Orlando, FL.
The special NXT episode in August will air on Syfy due to USA Network coverage of the 2024 Olympics. The Great American Bash is being billed as NXT's summer tradition. This will be the 26th Great American Bash event in wrestling history and the 12th produced by World Wrestling Entertainment, and it will take place just a few days after SummerSlam.
NXT's 2023 Great American Bash opened up with The Family winning the NXT Tag Team Championship from Gallus. The main event saw Carmelo Hayes retain the NXT Championship over Ilja Dragunov. The current NXT creative team, lead by Shawn Micheals, surely would aim to put out a stellar show for the WWE Universe this time around too.
