WWE match ends in controversy; former AEW star robbed of a major title opportunity

The opening match of this week's episode of WWE NXT ended in controversy. A Battle Royale was held to determine Trick William's next challenger for the NXT Championship.

Several stars from the developmental brand, the main roster and TNA Wrestling competed in the bout, including former AEW wrestler Ethan Page. Even though Je'Von Evans was the winner, All Ego was not eliminated from the multi-man battle royal, which means he could've won the match.

Some of the other participants were Angel, Berto, Apollo Crews, Dragon Lee, Shawn Spears, Tony D'Angelo, and Tyler Bate. Frankie Kazarian and Joe Hendry were the two TNA wrestlers who made a surprise appearance for the match. The latter got a big pop, and he even cut a promo before entering the ring. However, he was immediately eliminated by Kazarian, his rival in TNA.

Another star who left the match early was "All Ego" Ethan Page. Oro Mensah attacked him during the match and they both went through the ropes. Since Page didn't go over the top rope, he wasn't eliminated. He never returned to the match, and in the end, Je'Von Evans emerged victorious on WWE NXT tonight.

Oro Mensah cost Page an opportunity at the coveted WWE NXT Championship by attacking him and taking him out of the battle royal. The feud between the stars seem to be just starting and will be interesting to watch how it proceeds next.
