WWE might have soured on RAW star due to quiet reactions, Vince Russo thinks (Exclusive)
Vince Russo was WWE's head writer in the late 1990s when RAW regularly drew its highest television ratings. The one-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion recently gave his take on WWE's booking of Bronson Reed.
On September 30, Reed's middle-rope suplex on Braun Strowman caused the ring to collapse during their Last Monster Standing battle on RAW. The returning Seth Rollins then hit the Aussie with a Stomp, helping Strowman to secure the win.
Vince Russo spoke about Reed's WWE status with host Dr. Chris Featherstone on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo. The veteran writer revealed he heard negative feedback from someone in the company about the RAW star's crowd reactions:
"I had somebody from the WWE contact me this week and basically said, 'When Bronson Reed came out this week in Evansville, zero response,'" Russo stated. "There was no response to Bronson Reed. Now I'm looking at, okay, bro, zero response to Bronson Reed, now Seth Rollins is back, is this the old, 'We tried, bro.'" [From 02:18 – 02:50]
In Vince Russo's opinion, WWE's creative team should think of compelling storylines for Reed rather than base rivalries around his Tsunami move:
"Again, Chris, you and I have this conversation over and over and over again, you're not going to get anybody over with just wrestling, bro. You're not. He could do a thousand Tsunamis, there's gotta be more to it than that." [From 02:52 – 03:11]

Vince Russo reacts to Braun Strowman vs. Bronson Reed
Although the Last Monster Standing bout headlined RAW, Vince Russo does not think fans were invested in Braun Strowman or Bronson Reed.
Moving forward, he thinks WWE's higher-ups should think of creative ways to make the audience care about wrestlers ahead of big matches:
"What's the long game? Did you get more viewers? I mean, they're not gonna do that every week, so what's the long game? That's why, bro, in all of these matches, bro, you've got to get the people over. If you don't get the people over, bro, it'll never be must-see TV." [From 06:57 – 07:19]
Russo also revealed which WWE legends he thinks could join a new Vince McMahon-led wrestling promotion.
