WWE personality slams Creative for the booking of Cody Rhodes: "[He's] filling space"
Cody Rhodes is involved in a storyline with The Bloodline on SmackDown. A current WWE personality recently slammed Creative for booking The American Nightmare in that angle.
Over the past few weeks, the Undisputed WWE Champion, Kevin Owens, and Randy Orton have been feuding with Solo Sikoa and his version of The Bloodline. At Money in the Bank, the new self-appointed Tribal Chief and his group defeated Rhodes and his allies in a six-man tag team match. The American Nightmare will now defend his title against Sikoa at SummerSlam. While addressing the storyline on his Cheap Heat podcast, WWE personality Peter Rosenberg revealed that he dislikes it.
The 45-year-old claimed that it feels like the company is using The American Nightmare to fill space while waiting for Roman Reigns to return from his hiatus. He slammed Creative for using the promotion's top superstar in that role:
"I just don't like that story either. I don't like that story for Cody. I don't get it. I don't like Cody with, to me, it feels like a hodgepodge of babyfaces just up against a faction while waiting for Roman to get back. Cody's filling space. Your number-one guy in the company's kind of filling space," he said. [40:21 - 40:39]
Will Roman Reigns return at WWE SummerSlam?
Roman Reigns has been absent from television since losing his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. Meanwhile, many expected him to return at SummerSlam to confront his cousin, Solo Sikoa, after the latter led a coup on him and took over The Bloodline.
On the Gigantic Pop podcast, wrestling veteran Matt Morgan predicted how The Head of the Table's return could happen. He claimed the 39-year-old could show up after Sikoa's match against Rhodes at The Biggest Party of the Summer:
"I think the match has to happen. It has to be over. Cody wins, beats Solo, and then they start beating Cody up after the match, then Roman's music hits maybe. Do the stare down thing," he said.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. has suggested that Rhodes drop the title to Solo Sikoa before regaining it if Reigns' return is delayed. It would be interesting to see how this storyline would develop.
