WWE could be planning a blockbuster rematch for Randy Orton after SummerSlam 2024, believes analyst, against RAW Superstar
A backstage WWE personality discussed a potential blockbuster rematch for Randy Orton that the company might book following SummerSlam 2024. Sam Roberts thinks The Viper could possibly challenge Gunther if the latter wins the World Heavyweight Championship at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
The finals of the coveted King of the Ring tournament in April saw Orton and Gunther battling it out in front of a packed Jeddah crowd. However, the incredible match ended on a controversial note after The Ring General pinned Randy Orton, even though the replays showed that the latter's shoulder was up.
While Gunther was crowned as the winner of the tournament and awarded a title shot against Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024, Triple H assured that Orton could get his rematch against the Impermim leader down the line.
On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts stated he could see Orton laying his claim over the World Heavyweight Title if Gunther defeated Damian Priest. The RAW Talk host explained that Randy Orton could refer to Triple H's comments and demand a rematch against The Ring General with the gold on the line.
"It was said we'll run it back and maybe it'll still happen at some point. They could be waiting for either we can do it on the road to SummerSlam. Somehow Gunther going over to SmackDown or Randy coming over to RAW for a special match on the way to SummerSlam or if Gunther were to win the title, maybe that's when Randy goes, 'Hey, Hold up. Paul Levesque had mentioned something about this running this back.' I think now's a good time. Now you have that title. Now's a good time to run it back. I think it would be a vert good idea," Sam Roberts. (30:27 - 31:04)

Sam Roberts thinks John Cena could face Randy Orton in his retirement match
On the same podcast, Sam Roberts also discussed John Cena's emotional announcement of his retirement tour that would begin in 2025.
Roberts believes that owing to the decades-spanning history between the two men, Cena should face Orton in his final match before he hangs up his wrestling boots for good.
"I really feel like John Cena's last match should be against Randy Orton. I don't think the two should touch at all [until Cena's final match], and at the very end, the end of December [2025], maybe there is a special premium live event...You can do a special premium live event that is simply called 'Thank you John,'" said Sam Roberts.
John Cena and Randy Orton's last singles match came way back in 2017 on an episode of WWE SmackDown, where the former emerged victorious.
