WWE possibly setting up something big with CM Punk, according to legendary wrestling star
This week on WWE RAW, Seth Rollins, CM Punk, and Drew McIntyre were in the same ring together. Rollins laid out the rules of the SummerSlam bout between Punk and McIntyre. Wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer has now commented on the compelling storyline.
Both Punk and McIntyre fired verbal jabs at each other during the promo segment. Meanwhile, The Visionary spoke about how he was not a fan of either The Second City Saint or The Scottish Warrior. Rollins made it clear that he would call the match as per his wishes and established his authority over the encounter.
During a recent episode of Busted Open After Dark, former ECW and WWE star Tommy Dreamer mentioned that the RAW segment got him excited to watch the grudge match at SummerSlam. He felt that if everything went well at The Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE could probably have the three stars compete in a Triple Threat match in the future.
"I think in that opening segment with Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and CM Punk, they enticed me and gave me more interest to [sic] what I'm going to see. I gotta say, I know within my heart of hearts, barring any injuries, this is not done. This match could, from that, stem to a three-way, but whatever happens at SummerSlam is just setting up something to something big." [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
Drew McIntyre injured CM Punk at Royal Rumble 2024
The rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre picked up pace at Royal Rumble 2024. Although Punk eliminated McIntyre from the match, The Scottish Warrior managed to injure his rival.
The triceps injury kept Punk out for months, much to McIntyre's elation. However, The Best in the World cost the Scotsman multiple World Heavyweight Championship matches.
With SummerSlam just a few days away, the animosity between the two men is at its peak. RAW general manager Adam Pearce was also aware of this and warned both stars that the match would be called off if they laid hands on each other before the encounter.
