WWE is punishing a popular SmackDown Superstar because of real-life spouse, says Stevie Richards
Wrestling veteran Stevie Richards recently praised a popular WWE SmackDown star. Meanwhile, he predicted she is being punished because of her real-life spouse.
On a recent episode of Vince Russo's The Brand podcast, Richards applauded Chelsea Green's performance in the Stamford-based company following her Dumpster Match against Michin last Friday on SmackDown. Meanwhile, he pointed out that her husband, Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) should be back in WWE by now.
As he wondered why the former Intercontinental Champion did not return to the promotion, Richards claimed the 39-year-old might be why his wife is not getting a significant push. The 53-year-old veteran pointed out that although WWE, creatively led by Chief Content Officer Triple H, might not be trying to bury Green, she might not be "figured in" due to her marriage to Cardona:
"So, I'm not saying there's anything super negative like they're trying to bury her, but she might just not be figured in just by association for being married to him. You both know how it is. It's very political and really you pay for the sins of your tag team partner, the group you're in, whoever you run up and down the road with. And in this case, maybe they're just, she's not figured in," he said.
Richards stated that Green has everything needed in a female superstar, praising her for being an entertaining character, a good worker, and not injury-prone. He claimed he hence had no answer to why she is not receiving a significant push except the one he proposed:
"She has everything I would think that a Diva or a female wrestler, call them whatever you want in this day and age, she has every bit of a character and she can work and take bumps. She's not injury-prone anymore. She's been pretty durable, especially to put her in a match where you take a powerbomb basically through a table into a dumpster. I have no real answer for it except that's the only thing I can guess from the political aspect in my experience." [5:00 - 5:53]
Ex-WWE writer Vince Russo is also a fan of Chelsea Green
On the same episode of The Brand podcast, former WWE head writer Vince Russo revealed he was a fan of Chelsea Green's work. The 63-year-old showered the former Women's Tag Team Champion with praise.
Russo claimed Green was perhaps the only entertaining thing in the Stamford-based company:
"Chelsea Green, man. She is so good. She is the only entertaining thing perhaps within the entire company. She is the only thing, bro, that I actually enjoy watching," he said. [3:47 - 4:05]
Green went on a losing streak from June to September. Although she defeated Michin on the September 6 episode of SmackDown, the former Women's Tag Team Champion has since lost two matches. It would be interesting to see if the 33-year-old would soon get a push.
