WWE reportedly completely uninterested in bringing back legendary former champion
WWE has brought back several former superstars during the Triple H-led era, but the company reportedly has no interest in bringing back a former champion. The latest reports suggest that the Stamford-based company is not interested in Shane McMahon. The Prodigal Son is a one-time Hardcore Champion, a one-time European Champion, and a one-time SmackDown Tag Team Champion.
A photo featuring All Elite Wrestling President and CEO Tony Khan and Shane McMahon recently went viral on social media. The 54-year-old has confirmed that he met with Khan and had very kind words for the wrestling promoter for the success of the Jacksonville-based company in the past five years.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the possible reason to leak the picture was to help boost the ratings of AEW Dynamite. Meltzer also claimed WWE was not interested in bringing back Shane O'Mac to the Sports Entertainment juggernaut. Shane's last appearance for the Stamford-based promotion came at WrestleMania 39.
"I know that people in charge of WWE have no interest in him [Shane McMahon]," Meltzer said.
Shane McMahon releases statement via WWE Hall of Famer
A lot of fans were shocked by the leaked photo of Shane McMahon and Tony Khan. Meanwhile, The Prodigal Son issued a statement following his meeting with the AEW President via Bubba Ray Dudley.
McMahon claimed that he and Tony met through a mutual friend and ''had a great meeting.''
"Tony and I were connected through a mutual friend, and we had a great meeting. We talked about many things, but mostly about our shared love for the business and the rewards and challenges of working with family. I congratulated him on the five-year anniversary of AEW and look forward to how he evolves the business moving forward," he said.
It will be interesting to see if Shane McMahon becomes All Elite in the coming days.
