WWE’s booking of Jey Uso slammed following RAW
WWE began pushing Jey Uso as a top singles superstar when he came to RAW last year. The multi-time tag team champion has had many close calls when it comes to success this year, but he keeps coming up short. Now Rikishi has agreed with the WWE Universe on how Jey is being used. This
Main Event Jey headlined SummerSlam 2023 with Roman Reigns in Tribal Combat. Despite a strong push from The Bloodline and a strong RAW arrival, Uso does not have a SummerSlam 2024 match with less than two weeks to go. As a top merchandise mover, Jey remains a fan-favorite, but WWE has stalled his push past the WrestleMania win over brother Jimmy Uso. He was favored to win Money In the Bank and King of the Ring but came up short and could not dethrone then-Intercontinental Champion Gunther and World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest.
Rikishi knocked WWE for booking his son in a flirtatious storyline with Rhea Ripley this close to SummerSlam. The former Too Cool member has also made the case for why WWE should make Jey a singles champion.
On his latest Off The Top podcast episode, Rikishi predicted Roman, Jimmy, and Jey would reunite as the original version of The Bloodline, presumably to battle the current faction. The Hall of Famer declared that Jey's first-ever singles reign would be best for business.
"Because they're not doing a da*n thing with Yeet. My opinion is, why do you not push or give the most popular babyface, in my eyes, be it my son or not? If The Yeet Master or The Yeet Man is over, why? How come? What is the problem not giving this guy, you know, some type of title or something? Win something. It would only be good for business, wouldn't it? That's what they say; it's good for business, right?" Rikishi said. [From 42:20 to 42:56]
Rikishi, who has criticized WWE's booking on his show in the past, then touched on how The Usos were split up and how Jey has not been rewarded for his hard work.
"I get hot when I’m talking about this because whether it’s my son or somebody else. This kid worked hard. Not to say everybody else didn't, but da*n it, in this industry, you work hard till when you finally find that. They conquered the tag team [division]. What else is there to do? Now he breaks off as Yeet. Right? He does his thing here, and then yet it’s not like they’re giving the gas pedal to him, man," Rikishi said. [From 44:43 to 44:59]
A recently leaked backstage report suggests that Roman Reigns will be back in time for SummerSlam. Jimmy is also expected to return soon, as he was recently cleared for competition.
Jey Uso praised after WWE RAW
This week's WWE RAW aired live from the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The show was headlined by Sami Zayn and Jey Uso winning a 16-minute match over Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. The Judgment Day did not have the World Tag Team Championship on the line.
The post-match angle saw Bron Breakker rush the ring to lay Zayn out with a Spear. He then retreated as RAW went off the air.
A fan on YouTube shared footage of the Intercontinental Champion praising Uso and putting him over as Main Event Jey.
Zayn is set to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker at SummerSlam. As of this writing, Uso has not been confirmed for a match.
