WWE's Drew McIntyre sends message to Indian Cricket Team following ICC T20 World Cup 2024 glory

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre joined the celebration with the Indian Cricket Team after its ICC T20 World Cup 2024 win.

Incredible India and South Africa put on a spectacle in the World Cup Final on June 29. Each move made by the teams was countered as the contest swayed back and forth. This made the result unpredictable until the very end, leaving viewers literally at the edge of their seats. In the end, it was India that took home the win.

The vast majority of the fans in attendance were awash in blue. Little did the Indians know that it would be the last time they would witness Rohit Sharma perform in the T20I. Sharma announced his retirement at the end of his media address post-match.

Rohit Sharma led an exceptionally talented Indian team—Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli (who also announced retirement from the T20I format), Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel, among others—to victory against South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Drew McIntyre took to Instagram and shared WWE India's post featuring him wearing the Indian jersey. He admitted to being late for the party but nevertheless sent a congratulatory message directed at the defiant Indian team:

"Late to the party, but congrats @indiancricketteam *salute*," Drew McIntyre wrote.

As for McIntyre, he is in the midst of a deeply personal rivalry on WWE RAW that has the potential to emerge as the best feud of the year. The Scotsman's adversary is the man who left WWE 10 years ago and decided to put his differences aside and rejoin the wrestling promotion in November 2023, CM Punk.

It was seemingly a response to the fans rallying for years, hoping to see Punk return to the squared circle after the latter became disillusioned with WWE and parted ways with the company acrimoniously back in 2014.

Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk is one of the most anticipated WWE matches of 2024

CM Punk flew to Glasgow last month to sabotage Drew McIntyre's homecoming and potential World Heavyweight Championship victory. McIntyre returned the favor in Chicago a week later by beating Punk to a pulp.

Last week's Monday Night RAW episode featured a scathing promo by Drew McIntyre after he viciously attacked CM Punk and stole The Second City Saint's bracelet, which holds sentimental value to the latter.

Despite things having reached a breaking point between the two former WWE Champions, it appears there could be a delay in their first-ever showdown.

Tonight's episode will feature Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Ilja Dragunov competing in a Triple Threat Match to secure the final spot in the 2024 Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match, which is set to take place this Saturday in the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
