WWE scrapped major angle for Kane at Royal Rumble event

The annual WWE Royal Rumble event is usually packed with swerves and surprises, with the premium live event serving as the official kickoff to WrestleMania Season. One of WWE's biggest superstars had the chance to work with the legendary Kane, but an unfortunate series of events led to officials nixing plans.

The Big Red Machine joined WWE in 1995 and was later repackaged as The Undertaker's lost brother Kane. He became a household name and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021. Politics came calling as Kane was elected Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, in 2018, then re-elected in 2022.

The Big Red Mayor worked between 96 and 200 matches per year since 1998. Kane greatly reduced his WWE schedule after launching his campaign in 2017. His sole contest in 2021 was the 30-Man Royal Rumble, where he entered at #18 as a surprise entrant.

After eliminating Dolph Ziggler and Ricochet, Damian Priest tossed the former champion out at just under two minutes. Now it's being revealed that officials had a big angle planned with Kane and Omos.

Mason Madden recently spoke with Fightful and recalled bumping heads with Omos one day while learning monkey rolls from Drew Gulak in a Performance Center class. Omos had a concussion and was busted open, while Madden was left with a scar.

The Nigerian Giant had to miss the 2021 Rumble due to the concussion. Officials had a special Rumble spot planned with Kane and Omos, but it was nixed because of the injury from training.

While Omos was not an official entrant in the 2021 Rumble, he appeared at ringside as AJ Styles' bodyguard. The 30-year-old assisted AJ, intimidated other participants, and ended up eliminating Big E and Rey Mysterio.

WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump comments on Kane; potential governorship

Donald Trump and Glenn Jacobs, aka Kane, have at least two things in common: they are both WWE Hall of Famers and members of the Republican party.

Kane and Trump have both endorsed each other in the past. Speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa earlier this year, Trump gave a shout-out to The Big Red Mayor, who was sitting in the crowd.

"Another man who’s a friend of mine, I’m not going to mess around with — he’s Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. Do you know Glenn Jacobs? Goes by the name of Kane. Kane! Kane! Where is Kane? Look at the size of this guy, man oh man. He’s all man. He’s all man. How tall are you, 6’8”? And weigh, what, 300-something?" Donald Trump said. [H/T to Washington Examiner]

Kane is currently in his second and last term as Mayor of Knox County, which ends in 2026. There has been speculation within The Bluegrass State that the WWE Legend may run for Governor. The second term for current Governor Lee also ends in 2026.
