WWE SmackDown star opens up on recent career-altering move

A WWE SmackDown star recently opened up about a recent change in his career. The superstar in question, Baron Corbin, discussed what it was like to revitalize his career in NXT and become a tag team wrestler.

Corbin was most known for his Lone Wolf gimmick from development to the main roster. He underwent a lot of character changes over the years from Sad Corbin, Happy Corbin, and Constable Corbin. He even worked with WWE Hall of Famer JBL but it didn't pan out.

The former Money in the Bank winner then went to NXT and revived his career. He also won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Bron Breakker. He was called up to the main roster in this year's draft and is now in a tag team with Apollo Crews.

Speaking to WrestleManiac UK on YouTube, Corbin was asked about his transition from a singles superstar to a tag team wrestler.

"It's been great. Having somebody to kind of lean on a little bit, Bron and then Apollo, it's a great feeling to have and you can kind of share those commonalities. Apollo and I have been friends for nearly 12 years now. We started in NXT about the same time. Him and I fought each other in London in NXT like a PLE, so it's been a cool ride for him and I. So to see what we can do on the main roster together has been a lot of fun," Corbin said. [3:42 - 4:07]

Baron Corbin has been in WWE since 2012, starting at developmental before getting called up to the main roster in 2016. Corbin returned to NXT last year wherein he had one of his best runs in the company before getting drafted back to SmackDown in April.

Baron Corbin was in a 'dark place' after failed WWE main roster run

In the same interview with WrestleManiac UK, Baron Corbin was unhappy with how his 'Modern Day Wrestling God' gimmick with JBL failed to get some steam. The failure of the character put him in a 'dark place' although it paved the way to his recent NXT run.

"The stuff with JBL just didn't work for some reason, it didn't resonate with the audience like I saw it. I still think it could have been so successful. So, that really hurt, because I think the world of John [JBL] and it really kind of put me in a dark place in a sense," Corbin said. [02:12 - 02:28 in the video above]

Corbin has not won a match on WWE television since returning to the main roster. He and Apollo Crews are currently in a feud with Angel and Berto of Legado Del Fantasma.
