WWE SmackDown stars are sick of being disrespected following incident with Cody Rhodes
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes made his presence felt on the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown during a major segment. A popular tag team was not happy with his actions and tore into him and the WWE Universe in a backstage interview.
Grayson Waller faced Kevin Owens in one of the top matches of the night. They had great chemistry in the ring, and KO picked up the win after toying with his opponent.
Waller and his tag team partner, Austin Theory, attacked The Prizefighter after the match. However, Cody Rhodes arrived with a pair of steel chairs to save Owens, just like the latter had done for him last week.
It was a great segment that helped build some tension between Cody and Kevin ahead of their Undisputed WWE Championship match at Bash in Berlin 2024. However, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller were not too happy with how things went down.
In a SmackDown Exclusive, A-Town Down Under spoke about their rough night. Theory noted that the two were done being disrespected by the top guys on the blue brand.
"Rough night for A-Town Down Under? Let me tell you something. What’s been rough? Every week. Us having to carry these top guys because what, they need us. They need us to get a little edge, to be important. But us? What do we get? We get disrespected. We get hit with chairs. But you know what we deserve? To be on the label, to be on everything. SmackDown, it should just be our faces. Grayson Waller and Austin Theory," Austin Theory said. [H/T Fightful]
Waller added that the disrespect had to come to an end soon. He also teased that their feud with Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens was just building up.
"I’m getting sick and tired of people being disrespectful like you and talking about wins or losses like we’re in the minor leagues. We’re on SmackDown, this is the WWE. The best in the world are here. Week after week, they need Grayson Waller and Austin Theory up against them. I’m not talking about the best right now. I’m talking about the best of all time. We’re in there with future Hall of Famers every week, and we don’t take a backwards step. We compete and we show we belong. Cody and Kevin think they run this show, they think they can hit us with some chairs and we’re done. It’s just the beginning," Grayson Waller said. [H/T Fightful]
WWE could use the two men during the championship match at Bash in Berlin to protect Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens from a clean loss. It would also help them keep KO from turning heel for some time.
Former WWE manager spoke about Cody Rhodes’ upcoming problems
Dutch Mantell has been watching WWE’s product closely to come up with some great analysis. In a recent chat on his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, the former WWE manager noted that Roman Reigns still has some problems to sort out with Cody Rhodes.
He noted that The Original Tribal Chief’s return at SummerSlam 2024 has opened the doors to a few rivalries. It will be enough to keep him busy till WrestleMania and beyond.
"By having Roman Reigns show up at SummerSlam, there are several stories that haven't been told. Roman still has an issue with Cody [Rhodes]. Now, he has a double-pointed angle. He's got one with the rest of the family, and he has one with Cody (...) So, this has a lot of doors leading in and out and that'll easily take them to WrestleMania," Dutch Mantell said.
Cody Rhodes will likely face a few more big WWE Superstars before dropping his title. Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, and LA Knight are some of the names who could get a shot at The American Nightmare's title soon.
