WWE star makes controversial claim about MJF jumping ship from AEW
MJF previously hyped up a WWE vs. AEW bidding war for 2024 but recently re-signed with Tony Khan's company. One former All Elite talent and current superstar has just made a controversial claim about how Maxwell could have his way in World Wrestling Entertainment.
Lexis King is the son of the late great Brian Pillman. King was signed to MLW from late 2018 through July 2021. With MLW's permission, he debuted for AEW at its inaugural 2019 event and signed a full-time deal in July 2021. The contract expired in July 2023, and the star had a WWE tryout that same month. He signed a deal weeks later and debuted in September. King has a history with AEW Original Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
The NXT Superstar recently praised the current AEW American Champion on Busted Open Radio and claimed how MJF could "steal" anyone's spot in WWE.
King said the WWE - TNA partnership is great, but he looked at the industry, not by individual rosters, and if anyone from another promotion tried to take his spot, he would be waiting.
"You got guys like MJF in AEW... he could come here at any time and steal anybody’s spot if he wanted to. I don’t look at different factions as this, that, or the other. Everybody is an opponent or enemy, and if you’re coming to my show to take spots, you’re on my radar. I’m the king of NXT, and this is my domain. If you come here to parade around that TNA flag, you better be ready to get in the ring and throw hands because I’m fighting for my spot, and I don’t care what acronym that is," Lexis King said. The son of Flyin' Brian defeated The Salt Of The Earth in April 2019 while with MLW.
After multi-man matches in MLW and GCW, plus the inaugural AEW Casino Battle Royale, Friedman won their second-ever singles bout at the Grand Slam 2021 Dynamite.
Lexis King continues WWE NXT rivalry after loss
The WWE NXT war between Lexis King, fka Brian Pillman Jr., and Eddy Thorpe, fka Karl Fredericks, is continuing.
After recent issues between the two, Thorpe caused King to come up short against Heritage Cup Champion Tony D'Angelo earlier this month. The former AEW star then crashed Thorpe's DJ performance over the weekend to build to their first-ever televised singles bout on last night's NXT.
Thorpe won in just over two minutes, but King attacked and smashed his hand with a scepter after the match.
WWE then aired a post-show promo with King taking shots at Thorpe and promising to prove he does not belong in the ring.
In addition to last night's NXT TV match, King and Thorpe have worked three non-televised singles bouts in NXT.
King won two matches in March, but Thorpe got the win back earlier this month.
