WWE star Sheamus addresses career-threatening injury

Sheamus was sidelined for eight months between August 2023 and April 2024 due to neck and shoulder injuries. In a recent YouTube video, the Irishman opened up about his state of mind on his way back to the ring.

On April 15, Sheamus defeated Ivar in his comeback match on RAW. After the show, the 46-year-old revealed on social media he thought his career was over two months before his return.

Speaking to fellow WWE star Randy Orton on his Celtic Warrior Workouts YouTube channel, Sheamus revealed he kept suffering setbacks as he stepped up his recovery:

"When I was going through my neck stuff I was calling you and texting you. Normally I'm the type of guy who goes in, gotta get it [surgery] done once, one and done, and then it was a different thing for me because it took me so much longer. Then I went down and I bumped [practiced in a wrestling ring] and I kept getting stingers, so eventually it went away." [From 6:19 – 6:38]

The Celtic Warrior has worked for WWE since 2007. He has won several titles with the company, including the WWE Championship three times and the World Heavyweight Championship once.

What Sheamus learned during his WWE absence

Randy Orton is well-known for wrestling in a slower, more methodical style than some of today's high-tempo, acrobatic in-ring competitors.

Like Orton, Sheamus decided to slow down his wrestling style after initially fearing he might not return:

"It [neck injury] taught me just to be a bit more patient and move slower, as opposed to gung-ho, head-first running into walls and s**t like that, you know?" [From 6:41 – 6:52]

In the same episode, Orton admitted he felt like he no longer belonged in a WWE ring after his return from the Survivor Series: WarGames 2023.
