WWE star urged to return to the ring for the first time in 12 years

A popular WWE star has been urged to return to the ring for the first time since 2012 ahead of tonight's edition of RAW. Tonight's show will be the first episode of the red brand following Clash at the Castle: Scotland this past weekend.

WWE commentator Vic Joseph shared an interesting post today on social media. He noted that a massive Battle Royal was coming up on this week's episode of the white and gold brand to determine the number one contender for Trick Williams' NXT Championship. Joseph stated that he hoped to see backstage interviewer, Byron Saxton, return to the ring for the first time in 12 years to compete in the Battle Royal.

Saxton has not competed in a match since defeating Chase Donovan at an FCW event on August 2, 2012.

"I hope this man enters the No. 1 Contenders Battle Royal tomorrow on #WWENXT," wrote Vic Joseph with a picture of Byron Saxton.

Trick Williams defeated Ethan Page at NXT Battleground to retain his championship earlier this month. Page's AEW contract expired earlier this year and he made his debut with the promotion on the May 28 edition of NXT by attacking Trick Williams to begin their rivalry.

Vince Russo believes WWE could decide to get rid of NXT

Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently suggested that the Stamford-based promotion may decide to move on from NXT due to financial reasons.

During a recent edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Outlaws show, Russo noted that WWE now had another organization to answer to. The promotion merged with TKO last year and their new business partners could view NXT as a product with diminishing returns.

"It's interesting because we have to start thinking differently. They're not the WWE anymore. They are answering to other people, bro, and you don't know how those other people are thinking, what they're seeing. But, bro, you do know this, here's the bottom line, bro: it's dollars and cents," Russo said. [9:52 – 10:12]

Vic Joseph's wife, backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell, was released by the company last December. It will be interesting to see which star emerges victorious in the Battle Royal tomorrow night and becomes the number-one contender for the NXT Championship.
