WWE Superstar Carmelo Hayes names current AEW star among his idols (Exclusive)

Carmelo Hayes was recently asked to name his heroes in the pro-wrestling world, which led him to add an AEW name among WWE Superstars.

Over the last few months, Carmelo Hayes has been steadily rising in terms of popularity in the Stamford-based promotion. He also had his SmackDown debut match in December last year, where he took down Grayson Waller in a singles match. He was also a participant in this year's Royal Rumble, where he was eliminated by Finn Balor.

In a recent interview with Bill Apter for Sportskeeda, Carmelo Hayes was asked about who he looked up to in the pro-wrestling world. Apart from naming legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock, he also mentioned Edge, who is currently a part of the AEW roster under his real name Adam Copeland:

"You gotta remember, I started watching right at the end of the Attitude Era, you know what I mean. But I am you know a student of the game, so I pay attention to a lot of stuff. But as far as heroes go, I mean there is so many of 'em. When I start watching it was the Rock, it was Austin, it was right on the tail end of the Attitude era. Edge, Rey Mysterio, all those guys I guess I'd say are my heroes." [0:52 onwards]

Carmelo Hayes has seemingly confirmed his move to the WWE main roster

While Carmelo Hayes is not yet signed to SmackDown or RAW, the time for his move from NXT may be upon the fans.

Carmelo recently appeared to finish his feud with Trick Williams, ending in a defeat for the former in a steel cage match. The bout happened in the latest NXT episode, and fans seemed to pick up on it being Carmelo's final NXT match as they broke out with chants of "Thank you, Melo." Furthermore, the 29-year-old Superstar also took to social media and posted an apparent farewell message:

"And that’s all it’s gonna be. #WWENXT," tweeted Hayes.

As of now, it remains to be seen what is next for Carmelo Hayes in WWE.
