WWE News: WWE teasing Eric Bischoff as the new Raw General Manager

Could it be?

What’s the story?

WWE.com have posted a video of a small interview with former WCW head honcho Eric Bischoff.

The otherwise benign video shows Eric Bischoff talking about WrestleMania 33 and how he feels like to be at the event, but towards the end, Bischoff drops a hint about possibly becoming the new Raw General Manager.

In case you didn’t know...

Eric Bischoff, who last made a WWE TV appearance on the 15th Anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw (10th December 2007) has been named as the person who will be inducting Diamond Dallas Page into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Bischoff and Page share a lot of history from their WCW days together and are really good friends outside the ring as well. While Bischoff himself hasn’t been inducted into the Hall of Fame himself, he’s considered by many to be a certain inductee at some point in the future.

WWE had also released a documentary about Bischoff in 2016.

The heart of the matter

Eric Bischoff was interviewed by WWE.com about his appearance at the Axxess event. He said that he enjoyed feeling the WrestleMania atmosphere, having been a part of it many times.

Upon being asked about his thoughts on Goldberg being Universal Champion going into his match against Brock Lesnar, Bischoff voiced his support for Goldberg.

The interviewer then asked Bischoff about whether he’d be coming back as the WWE Raw General Manager now that Mick Foley had been fired. It’s important to note that Eric Bischoff had been the General Manager of Raw from 2002 to 2005.

Bischoff was quoted in his reply as saying:

“There’s a tired, old, overused saying in the business, ‘Never say never’, but I wouldn’t bet on it either.”

The full video of Bischoff’s interaction with WWE.com can be seen below:

What’s next?

Eric Bischoff will next be inducting Diamond Dallas Page into the WWE Hall of Fame, class of 2017. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida on March 31st, 2017.

Bischoff might also make an appearance at the “One Night with The Kliq” event, which he has been promoting on his Twitter account.

As far as him being the new Raw General Manager goes, we will have to wait until the Raw after WrestleMania 33 for that one.

Author’s take

Eric Bischoff coming back to the WWE as the Raw General Manager would be incredible. Bischoff’s managerial and on-air talents are second to none. This was the man that catapulted WCW to its legendary status and despite all his bad decisions, will forever remain a legend.

Bischoff also has experience with this kind of a role from before, so if the WWE want him back, he would certainly fit the role like a glove fits a hand.

It does look unlikely, however, what with Kurt Angle being touted and rumoured to be coming for the position instead, like Bischoff himself said, however, Never Say Never!
