WWE unnecessarily stirring tensions between Cody Rhodes and popular babyface, claims former writer (Exclusive)
Former WWE head writer Vince Russo spoke about Cody Rhodes in the opening promo this week on SmackDown. The segment featured the top babyfaces of the blue brand.
Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, and Kevin Owens were in the ring when the outlaw Bloodline interfered. After a brief war of words, KO issued a challenge to Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu to face him and Randy in a tag team match. Cody wanted to join in on the action as well but Owens stopped him, stating that the American Nightmare already had his designated partner and match set for Bad Blood.
This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's BroDown with Vince Russo, the former writer detailed that WWE was just dragging out the storyline between the two stars. He pointed out that they met at Bash in Berlin and now the creative team wants another match between them with Owens doing a heel turn on the champ. Russo felt this would result in just another match with Cody going over.
"Here's why this is such a massive waste of time. We just had a match at the last pay-per-view. We just had Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens. They kind of teased a Kevin Owens turn and they did not go there. So what are they doing bro? They're continuing that same exact story. And why are they continuing the same exact story? I'll tell you why. Because there's going to be a Kevin Owens turn so they can get another Kevin Owens Cody Rhodes match out of it." [5:15 onwards]
Things got worse between Owens and Rhodes as the evening progressed. During the tag team match, Jacob Fatu threw Cody Rhodes onto the referee preventing a three count when KO had Solo pinned.
After the match, Owens was irate and confronted Cody leading to Randy Orton stepping in between them to cool things down.
