WWE veteran addresses the problem with Braun Strowman (Exclusive)
Braun Strowman returned to WWE in 2022 shortly after Triple H replaced Vince McMahon as the main roster's creative figurehead. Vince Russo, WWE's head writer in the late 1990s, believes The Monster of All Monsters should undergo a character change.
Strowman has performed as a babyface in recent weeks while feuding with the villainous Bronson Reed. The six-foot-eight star refers to himself as "One Big S.O.B." and is known for producing extraordinary feats of strength.
On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo explained why Strowman should incorporate his North Carolina roots as part of his on-screen persona:
"When I see him, I'm feeling good old boy. Bro, then go with that. Then let that be the gimmick. Country Dumb, Big Country, whatever he's gonna be. Let that be the gimmick, then. Because by not embracing that, I think it's hurting him, and I will forever look at that guy as a good old boy. And, bro, good old boys are really hard to get over [make popular]." [3:29 – 3:58]

Vince Russo compares Braun Strowman and Sid Vicious
On August 26, Sid Vicious passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. The legendary wrestler, real name Sid Eudy, was one of the top stars in the industry in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Vince Russo used Sid as an example to highlight how many people perceive Braun Strowman:
"The closest a good old boy ever got to being over, honestly, Sid. And look at him. Look at what he looked like. And, bro, but when he opened that mouth and had that accent from Arkansas, good old boys, bro, are hard to get over because the East Coast, the West Coast, they all look at that good old boy a certain way, so it's like, bro, that's either his gimmick or that's just how he's gonna be looked at." Strowman will face long-term rival Bronson Reed in a blockbuster bout on the September 16, episode of RAW.
