WWE veteran dismisses reports he was set to make WrestleMania 39 return
Former WWE Superstar Gangrel has refuted reports of him returning at WrestleMania 39 to play a role in Edge's match against Finn Balor.
There were rumors about Gangrel being in Edge's corner for the Hell in a Cell match, but it never happened. He was at Los Angeles before WrestleMania 39, but it was for WrestleCon. He never showed up at SoFi Stadium as Edge defeated Balor on Night Two of the event.
In an interview with Wrestling News, Gangrel dismissed the reports of his WrestleMania 39 appearance. He even called Edge after reading the rumors just to confirm if he was really part of the plans.
"I believe it may have been pitched, but I never heard about it," Gangrel said. "I called Edge and said, 'Hey, where'd all these rumors start?' And he goes, 'Ah, they think they know everything.'" [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
Gangrel was part of The Brood with Edge and Christian during the Attitude Era. Edge brought back aspects of his character from The Brood during his feud with The Judgment Day, so it was not far-fetched to think Gangrel would become a part of the Show of Shows.
Gangrel on his relationship with Edge and Christian after WWE
In the same interview with Wrestling News, Gangrel opened up about his relationship with Edge and Christian. The WWE legend revealed that he's more in touch with The Rated-R Superstar than the AEW star.
"Once a month or a couple of times, I'll send Edge a text or something," Gangrel said. "He answers it right back immediately. Christian, I don't talk to as frequently, but I was just with him two weekends ago at Squared Circle Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana."
He added that he has a good relationship with each of his former stablemates.
"We were right next to each other, so we had really good conversations. I think he's going to come in and possibly do a seminar for CCW in the future. We just have to line it up. So good relationship, I talk more frequently with Edge, but it's a good relationship with each guy."
The Brood only lasted for several months, but it was one of the most popular stables from the Attitude Era. It remains to be seen whether Gangrel will ever return to WWE in some capacity.
