WWE veteran explains why The Hurt Business was "a miss from the get-go" (Exclusive)
The Hurt Business was one of the more unique factions in WWE history. However, wrestling veteran Vince Russo believes that the group's booking was flawed from the very start.
The Hurt Business was formed in 2020 when MVP promised Bobby Lashley a WWE Championship reign. After a few weeks, Shelton Benjamin joined them, and Cedric Alexander also joined the ranks following a heel turn. While the group was dissolved in 2022, a reunion was teased the following year but did not happen.
Speaking on Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, Vince Russo explained:
"This is where it was a miss from the get-go. Bro, they started The Hurt Business during the height of Black Lives Matter. Now, here is the thing. Chris, you know better than anybody, especially for white people; there was a great misunderstanding of what Black Lives Matter really was. That was the perfect opportunity to tell that story and to explain that story, and to educate people... And who would have been better than MVP? They totally ignored it," the WWE veteran said. The WWE veteran also talked about the lack of diversity in the creative department
According to Vince Russo, the lack of black and female writers in the creative departments negatively affects the quality of bookings for certain superstars.
On the same episode of Sportskeeda's The Wrestling Outlaws, the veteran stated:
"Here is the question. Do white writers and white creative people know how to write and book for black people? That's really the question and the answer to that is no. The answer to that is no just like a white guy. A white guy doesn't know how to book a woman, he is not a woman. He doesn't know how to book a woman. So yes, there should be more black writers. There should be more female writers." [2:48 onwards]
For now, only time will tell if The Hurt Business will ever reform in WWE.
