WWE veteran highlights distinction between John Cena and Ric Flair's World Title reigns
WWE legends Ric Flair and John Cena are both recognized as 16-time World Champions. However, pro wrestling veteran Bully Ray recently weighed in on the key differences between their title reigns.
The Cenation Leader returned at the 2024 Money in the Bank and announced his retirement from the WWE. His Farewell Tour will take place from January to December 2025. Many fans and wrestling veterans have expressed that Cena should win a World Championship for the 17th time before hanging his boots.
On an episode of Busted Open Radio, the WWE Hall of Famer stated that The Doctor of Thuganomics has only racked up World Title wins in the Stamford-based promotion. Whereas, Ric Flair's extensive World Championship victories span across multiple promotions. According to Bully Ray, this distinction is what separates Cena from The Nature Boy.
"Ric Flair is the greatest professional wrestler of all time because he's done it all over the world. In my eyes, John Cena is already the greatest WWE Champion of all time, unless you do it all over the world, you cannot make the claim to being the greatest of anything of all time," said Ray. Bully Ray on how WWE should book John Cena's final match
At the MITB post-show press conference, The Cenation Leader revealed he had no say on who his final opponent would be. The 47-year-old WWE Superstar seemingly issued an open challenge to anyone who wants a shot at him in his farewell match.
During the same conversation, Bully Ray noted that the ideal opponent for John Cena's final match should be whoever is the reigning World Heavyweight Championship that night.
"I would love John Cena's last match to be against whoever is the world Heavyweight Champion on that night. If John were to lose, he'd go out with his shoulders on the mat, which he should, fighting for the world Heavyweight Championship," he said. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
It remains to be seen if The Franchise Player battles for a World Championship one more time before retiring.
