WWE veteran makes surprising claim about Bobby Lashley potentially joining AEW
Bobby Lashley recently departed WWE after his contract expired. A wrestling veteran now believes the 48-year-old joining AEW would not make a difference in the promotion. This was former WWE Superstar Rene Dupree.
The All-Mighty had significant success in the Stamford-based company during his two runs, winning multiple world titles. However, Triple H and his creative team seemingly had no plans for Lashley. Following his departure, reports suggested that the former U.S. Army Sergeant has interest from top companies domestically and internationally. Meanwhile, many are expecting to see him join Tony Khan's promotion, walking in the footsteps of several former WWE stars.
When asked about Lashley potentially joining AEW on his Cafe de Rene podcast, Dupree claimed it would not help the promotion:
"Potentially, would it make a difference? Absolutely not," he said. [43:06 - 43:08]
WWE analyst thinks Bobby Lashley could debut in AEW as a heel
Before he departed the Stamford-based company, Bobby Lashley was a babyface. However, WWE analyst Sam Roberts recently suggested The All-Mighty could debut in AEW as a heel.
The RAW Talk host claimed on his Notsam Wrestling podcast that the 48-year-old could be presented as the "voice of veterans who don't like AEW":
"Lashley coming in as a villainous heel voice of experience in AEW, being the voice of veterans who don't like AEW would be an excellent character. That would acknowledge the sort of negative response that AEW gets but put it in a package of a villain, which now makes it, 'Okay then, if we cheer the good guys, it's good to like AEW,'" he said.
Ricochet was the latest former WWE Superstar to debut in Tony Khan's promotion after his contract expired a few weeks ago. It would be interesting to see if Lashley would do the same.
