WWE veteran speculates on Becky Lynch's contact situation after major title win on RAW (Exclusive)

WWE RAW this week saw Becky Lynch crowned as the new Women's World Champion after winning a battle royal for the vacant title by last eliminating Liv Morgan. The Man winning the title was a surprise to many due to Becky's reported contract situation. Former WWE head writer Vince Russo detailed how the contact situation of a performer can affect their booking.

Becky won the title after she was attacked by Piper Niven and Nia Jax outside the ring and showcased her incredible resilience. She won the title after failing to capture the title at WrestleMania in a singles match against Rhea Ripley. The Irish star also talked about her contract ending soon in an interview with Ariel Helwani.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Legion of RAW podcast, Vince Russo detailed how he as the head writer booked people when the contract situation for the wrestler wasn't clear. He said that in his time, he booked whoever would draw ratings and would only phase out a wrestler if ordered by Vince McMahon. You can read his comments and watch the entire podcast below.

"When I was booking for the WWE or writing, whatever you call it, there is only.. there was only one thing that had any, you know, impact on the show and that were the ratings. If you drew, you were on TV. If you didn't draw, you weren't. It was that simple." [9:30 - 9:55]

He also speculated that the title win could be one way the company is trying to convince The Man to sign a new contract.
