WWE veteran on The Undertaker's in-ring return dilemma (Exclusive)
The Undertaker has made no secret he would like to wrestle again despite retiring from in-ring competition in 2020. While WWE's former head writer Vince Russo does not think another match is a good idea, he understands that The Deadman has unfinished business.
AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker was supposed to take place in front of 60,000 fans at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, at WrestleMania 36. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the rivals faced each other in a cinematic Boneyard match instead. The Phenom has not wrestled since that event, although he did appear at WrestleMania XL to attack The Rock.
The Undertaker recently spoke on Logan Paul's Impaulsive podcast about possibly wrestling one more match. On Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing With Russo, Russo told host, Dr. Chris Featherstone, what he thinks about the WWE icon's in-ring future:
"Listen, man, I have all the respect in the world for 'Taker and I would never, ever, ever, ever say anything negative about 'Taker. But, man, I swear to God, bro, Triple H, if you're listening, I wish I had a gig with the WWE, Chris, where like every three to five years I could just come back and write one show for like five mill and then disappear three to five years and come back and write another show for five mill. What a freaking racket, man. Unbelievable." [1:03 – 1:36]
In the video above, Russo also gave his honest thoughts on a potential match between Logan Paul and The Deadman.
Vince Russo on The Undertaker's underwhelming finale
In 2019, The Undertaker defeated Goldberg at Super ShowDown in the last regular advertised singles match of his career. The bout featured a series of miscommunications and uncoordinated moves due to Goldberg suffering two concussions.
Reflecting on that contest, Vince Russo appreciates the logic behind The Undertaker wanting to wrestle another one-on-one match:
"I watched his last match, and if I was 'Taker I would not have wanted that to be my last match either because Father Time kinda caught up with him. Also, combine that with the many, many, many, many injuries he's had throughout his career. You know, it's not gonna be a Dave Meltzer five-star match. Bro, he's only gotten older since then, so I can't imagine turning back the clock and it being better [now]." [1:40 – 2:11]
The 59-year-old was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2022. He now makes sporadic appearances backstage at WWE shows and tells stories about his career on his podcast and at speaking events.
