WWE will bring back AJ Lee after nearly a decade of absence only if one thing happens, says analyst
Following CM Punk's return to WWE last year, many have expressed their desire to see his wife, AJ Lee, make her comeback. Meanwhile, a WWE analyst recently addressed potentially seeing the former Divas Champion in the Stamford-based company again.
Lee had a six-year run in WWE, during which she held the Divas Championship three times. However, the 37-year-old left the promotion and retired from in-ring competition in 2015, about a year after her husband's departure. Although Punk returned to the company last year, The Black Widow did not.
According to recent reports, the Stamford-based company is open to bringing back Lee. Speaking on his Cheap Heat podcast, analyst Peter Rosenberg claimed the promotion's executives would not think twice about re-signing the former Divas Champion if she showed interest in returning to the squared circle.
"To me, this is an absolutely no-brainer. Assuming she has an interest in doing it, I think she'd come back; they'd be delighted, and the crowd, it would be gangbusters for her," he said. [18:50-18:58]
A current WWE champion wants a WrestleMania match against AJ Lee
Only a few of AJ Lee's generation of female superstars are still active in WWE. Hence, her potential return to the Stamford-based company would see The Black Widow have several first-time-ever matches against current top stars.
In a recent interview with CW Sports' official X account, reigning NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez expressed her desire to go head-to-head with Lee or Bayley at WrestleMania.
"My dream match would probably be at WrestleMania in Houston, Texas, against either Bayley or AJ Lee. It would be just a clean match. One, two, three, or submission," she said.
Veteran journalist Bill Apter recently predicted Lee could be enticed to return to the Sports Entertainment juggernaut if the company made her a good offer and involved her in an interesting angle. It will be interesting to see if that happens.
